Nisar Khuhro, Sindh Minister for Education & Literacy has emphasized the importance of information management and said: “Not only information but proper usage of authentic information is most valuable tool for a journalist.” He was addressing at the certificate distribution ceremony of participating journalists in 2-day media training workshop on Information Management, organized by Skill Development Committee of Karachi Press Club in collaboration with iMMAP, partner organization of USAID. While appreciating the live demonstration of the IM Tools, he was of the view that to establish a corruption-free society and good governance, access of information plays a vital role and in this regard, these international organizations are most welcomed to join hands with public sector.
On the occasion, Shams Keerio, Joint Secretary of Karachi Press Club, thanked the chief guest, organizers and participants who made this workshop successful. Discussing the recent natural disaster in Sindh, he said: “We all have to work jointly and cooperate with each other in sharing and managing the information in the critical situation.” He informed that during the workshop, not only latest online tools, prepared by iMMAP with the support of USAID, were introduced but also journalists shared their experience reporting natural disaster. The participants showed their keen interest in the disaster-focused IM tools; particularlyin dearsir.pk, srfpakistan.pk and oasispakistan.pk. The positive role of Project Incharge of Skill Development Committee, Nasir Ejaz and his team was also acknowledged.
Chief Guest Nisar Khuhro said that a common man must also be beneficiary of these initiatives and offered his full support to organize such workshops in future. He distributed certificates to participating journalists and presented Sindhi Ajrak to the iMMAP team for conducting the workshop. A large number of media representatives have attended the ceremony and for next workshop, the theme “Disaster Information Management for Media” is proposed.
