World Telecom and Information Society Day 2011

World Telecom and Information Society Day 2011

Information and communication are two entities interconnected since long. They have always been the reason for development, growth and prosperity of any nation. Communication nowadays has given information a whole new perspective with every single stakeholder playing its part to give the end-user reliable information constantly. This desire for information has given birth to a multi-billion dollar ICT industry which has revolutionised our day-to-day lives. All of us should play our part by taking steps to give information access to rural areas and people still living without access to technology.
The development of the ICT industry in Pakistan has been a great success story of which all of us have been a part of. The deregulation policy of the government gave birth to a regulatory authority which, assessing the demand for information, created an atmosphere for foreign investors to invest which led to the creation of our prevalent GSM,OFC,OSP,WLL & WiMAX networks catering to voice, data & video communication needs of – in excess of – 100 million Pakistanis. Initiatives such as the USF have really made evident the corporate social responsibility trend of the telecoms sector by providing ICT services to the remotest regions of our country. We hope and look forward to further such initiatives and await enhanced 3G network capability to provide information ease to the grassroots level of our society.
KHL is proud to have worked on specific projects with PTCL, USF & Huawei for providing connectivity to rural areas of Pakistan. The ICT sector should play its part in generating maximum economic activity within the country. The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day should be celebrated this year by putting in our efforts for a further connected world to promote prosperity and well-being within all of us.
