US intelligence agencies believe thatSheikh Sa’id al-Masri, also known as Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, Al-Qaeda’s No. 3 leader, was killed recently in a missile strike in Pakistan’s restive tribal region.“We have strong reason to believe that al-Masri was killed recently in Pakistan’s tribal areas,” said an anonymous official on Monday. “In terms of counterterrorism, this would be a big victory.” According to the US-based SITE Intelligence Group which monitors extremist websites, al-Masri’s wife, three daughters, his granddaughter and other men, women and children were killed in the attack.
