The US should do more: FM Qureshi

19 March 2010

“We have already done too much … Pakistan has done its bit, we have delivered; now it’s your (the US) turn. Start delivering,” asserted Pakistan’s dynamic Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi at a media interview on the imminent US-Pakistan strategic dialogue scheduled for March 24th in Washington.
This meeting will be co-chaired by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Foreign Minister Qureshi with the participation of senior Pakistani and US officials. Discussions will revolve around economic development and national security as the Foreign Minister outlined Islamabad’s expectations which included an acknowledgment of Pakistan’s concerns in “the realm of security and economic development”.  Water and energy issues, education, communications and agriculture will also be discussed in the US-Pakistan meeting.
Mr Qureshi further stated that economic aid alone cannot be the sole driver for a stable strategic partnership between the two countries.  “We have been talking a lot. The time has come to walk the talk,” stated Mr. Qureshi.
