WB rates Faisalabad as most business-friendly city in Pakistan

Business is easiest in Faisalabad according to the World Bank’s Doing Business in Pakistan 2010 report authored in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, USAID and DFID. It was unveiled on 1st July at a ceremony in Islamabad by Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Hina Rabbani Khar.

The report focuses on six stages of life of a small to medium-sized domestic enterprise: starting a business, dealing with construction permits, registering property, paying taxes, enforcing contracts and trading across borders.

The report compares the regulatory environment for business in 13 Pakistani cities, including Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Sukkur. Cities are compared against each other and with over 180 economies around the world.

Ranking is not determined by the size of the city. Both smaller cities, such as Multan and Sheikhupura, and larger cities, such as Faisalabad and Lahore, are ranked in the upper half.
